Income protection insurance
In order to receive compensation for involuntary unemployment, the other conditions of the insurance cover must also be met. The conditions can be found at Bliwa’s website (Swedish) as Bliwa is the provider of the income insurance.
What income protection insurance will give you
The Bliwa website enables you to calculate how much your compensation could be(Swedish)
Ledarna's income protection insurance complements the unemployment benefit from the unemployment insurance fund in Sweden. A prerequisite for receiving benefits from income protection insurance is that you are entitled to income-related benefits or a basic amount from an unemployment insurance fund with no days’ suspension of benefits. The basic amount applies to you if you are not a member of an unemployment insurance fund or have not been a member for long enough. The Alfa-kassan fund administers the basic amount for people who are not members of an unemployment insurance fund. If you are only entitled to the basic amount from the unemployment insurance fund, your total benefit will be lower.

Insure your correct salary
Until 1 July 2014, it was possible to insure a monthly income of up to SEK 30,000. If you joined Ledarna before then and made this choice, we recommend that you log into My pages on Bliwa (Swedish) and change your income bracket if your salary is higher. This is to avoid the risk of being underpaid if you become involuntarily unemployed. Read more about what applies at bliwa.se/ledarna(Swedish).
Insure a higher income and for a longer period of time
If you earn more than SEK 80,000 a month, and/or want to be able to receive compensation for longer than 150 days, you can take out supplementary insurance to cover this.
You can choose to add 100 extra days and insure an income of up to SEK 120,000 a month. You take out supplementary insurance yourself on Bliwa(Swedish).

How income protection insurance works
If you become unemployed, the compensation you receive from the unemployment insurance fund under the temporary rules can never be calculated on a monthly income higher than 80 per cent of SEK 33,000. If you earn more than that, you need income protection insurance.
Income protection insurance covers the part of your income that exceeds SEK 33,000 and is therefore a supplement to the unemployment insurance fund, both in the case of full unemployment insurance (income-related benefit) and in the case of the unemployment insurance fund’s basic benefit (if you are not a member of the unemployment insurance fund or have not been a member for long enough).
The income insurance compensation is the same regardless of which of the two benefits you receive from the unemployment insurance fund. On the other hand, the amount paid by the unemployment insurance fund is lower in the case of basic payment than in the case of income-related payment.
Income protection insurance pays you for the same number of days as the unemployment insurance fund, namely a maximum of 5 days per week and not for Saturday or Sunday. Spread over a year, this means that you will be compensated for an average of 22 days per month.
The calculator on Bliwa's website (Swedish) enables you to see how much compensation you can get.
Income protection insurance in the event of your giving notice of termination of your employment or having your employment summarily terminated
What happens if I hand in my notice?
A prerequisite for receiving benefits from income protection insurance is that you are entitled to income-related benefits or a basic amount from an unemployment insurance fund with no days’ suspension of benefits. If your unemployment insurance fund decides you should have some days’ suspension of benefits because you resigned without a valid reason, you are not entitled to compensation from the income protection insurance scheme. It is the unemployment insurance fund that decides on days’ suspension of benefits and Bliwa follows their decision. More information and the full terms and conditions are available at Bliwa(Swedish).
Here you can read more about what applies when you Hand in your notice of termination of employment (Swedish).
What happens if my employment is summarily terminated?
A prerequisite for receiving benefits from income protection insurance is that you are entitled to income-related benefits or a basic amount from an unemployment insurance fund with no days’ suspension of benefits. If your unemployment insurance fund has decided to reduce your unemployment benefit by some days because your employment was summarily terminated and your employer had a valid reason for doing so, you are not entitled to compensation from the income protection insurance scheme. It is the unemployment insurance fund that decides on days’ suspension of benefits and Bliwa follows their decision. More information and the full terms and conditions are available at Bliwa(Swedish).
